‘When the Extreme Becomes the Norm‘ aims to establish a collaborative, transdisciplinary platform shared by artists and scientists from diverse geographies and disciplines. This platform enables collective radical thinking on the ecology of cultural production. The project aims to extend beyond art and academia, based on the belief that knowledge should be free and accessible to all, rather than commodified for those who can afford it. ‘When the Extreme Becomes the Norm‘ will be developed through trial and error, accumulating knowledge while exercising life. We want to turn this working method into one that can be connected or applied to other knowledge-generating bodies. As part of this approach, people must link knowledge to action to actively work together to change their societies locally and beyond.
The interaction between humans and their natural environment is key to understanding humanity’s impact on our surroundings and how natural changes have shaped human life and society over thousands of years. Knowledge of this interaction underpins the sustainable use and conservation of natural and cultural environments. In this project, we aim to examine how human activity affects and is affected by nature, how the use of cultural and natural environments can support biodiversity, and the natural and cultural benefits of different landscapes and cultural environments.
