This exhibition project in the main space of CAPC Bordeaux, was a collaboration between Musée d’art Contemporain de Bordeaux and the Van Abbemuseum in Einhoven, as part of ‘EVENTO’, directed by Michelangelo Pistoletto. The title of the exhibition comes from a description of a breakdown in society that was delivered by Homi Bhabha in 2007. For him, ‘’Strange and Close’’ is a way to understand the essential aspect of being neighbors.
Artists: Marjetica Potrc, Dan Peterman, Yael Bartana, Artur Zmijewski, Absalon, Chto Delat, Daniza Dakic, Harun Farocki, Michal Heiman, Erzen Shokololi, Akram Zaatari, Nedko Solakov, Aydan Murtezaoglu, Michelangelo Pistoletto.

The title also offers a way to think about the relationships between the viewers and the artworks, as objects of the gaze. Overwhelmed by the enormous space at CAPC we introduced a single physical element – a generic ‘baseball fence” painted black which gently and efficiently directed the public through the space. Using these almost transparent barriers / partitions we could avoid the mistake of ‘designing’ such space, while make a gentle reference to the condition of neighboring and seperating.
